Tagging from Purse Seiners

After trials from Bluefin tuna fattening cages in Malta (Rouyer et al. 2019), since 2018 tagging operations have been taking place onboard french purse seine vessels operating south of Malta. These one of a kind operations allowed to tag and release very large individuals (>200kg) with electronic tags allowing to learn about the migratory dynamics of these giants (Rouyer et al., 2020). This allowed us to observe the very large scale migratory patterns in and out of the Mediterranean and around the Atlantic.
